She focuses on inclusive and sustainable development through the development of new tools for public space assessments, city-wide strategies, SDG 11.7.1 methodology, and nature-based solutions. Her responsibilities include monitoring and reporting to donors on public space project implementation, managing teams and Minecraft experts, running workshops, and resource mobilization. Joy has participated in Block by Block Workshops in China, South Africa, Kenya, and UAE (among others) and has represented Block by Block and UN-Habitat at global and regional events including World Urban Forum, UN-Habitat Assembly, and Regional Urban Forums. She has more than five years of experience in GIS technologies and urban planning and is an expert on public spaces.

Joy speaks English, Swahili, and Kipsigis and holds a bachelor’s in landscape architecture from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology. She lives in Nairobi, Kenya, where she enjoys swimming, cycling, and nature walks.

Instead of being a corporate draftsperson, I get to work directly with the community to understand their needs and transform them into meaningful drawings. This has transformed my career and changed my perspective as an architect, especially in managing public and social needs against environment and design.
